The smartphone will be utilising two variants of Qualcomm’s budget chipsets – a 14nm 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset and a 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 630 chipset. The Redmi 5 is supposed to sport 3GB RAM for the 16/32GB model and 4GB RAM for the 32/64GB model, along with 128GB expandable storage. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is rumoured to pack a 16-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is rumoured to run Android 7.1 with the MIUI 9 overlay and be powered by a 3680mAh non removable battery with Quick Charge 3.0. The Redmi 5 will ship with a metal frame, though it is still unknown what material will Xiaomi use on the back, though it’s quite possible it will be metal.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 tipped to be a dual SIM (GSM) . Connectivity options are said to include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Headphones, FM and 3G. Sensors on the phone are rumoured to include Proximity sensor, Accelerometer and Ambient light sensor.
Pricing, as noted earlier, will start at $125 for the lower tier model, and move up to $190 for the highest-end variant. Although no release date is mentioned, Xiaomi is expected to unveil the MIUI 9 overlay next month and could announce the new device during the keynote.
