Samsung Galaxy A8+ 2018 smartphone was launched in December 2017. The phone comes with a 6.00-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2220 pixels. The latest mid-range smartphones from Samsung feature an Infinity Display and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, it feature a rear placed fingerprint scanner just beneath the main camera setup and sport connectivity options like NFC and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST). These are the first phones from Samsung to have dual-front facing cameras, These smartphones also support the Samsung Gear VR, thanks to the higher resolution display.
The Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) is powered by 1.6GHz octa-core processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM. The high-performance cores should ensure these phones work smoother and faster than their predecessors, which were rather limited on the performance front as previous mid-range Exynos chips only had power-efficient cores. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) packs a 16-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 16-megapixel front shooter for selfies. The 16-megapixel f/1.9 front camera is paired with an 8-megapixel f/1.9 secondary camera. There’s a 16-megapixel f/1.7 rear camera with video digital image stabilization and a Hyperlapse mode (previously exclusive to Samsung’s flagship phones). There still doesn’t seem to be optical image stabilization on the rear camera, though, so we’re hoping blurry photos aren’t an issue as they were on last year’s Galaxy A devices.
The Samsung Galaxy A8+ 2018 runs Android 7.1.1 and is powered by a 3500mAh. It measures 159.90 x 75.70 x 8.30 (height x width x thickness) and weigh 191.00 grams. Galaxy A8+ 2018 will both be available in Black, Gold, Blue, and Orchid Grey colour variants.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and NFC. Sensors on the phone include Compass Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope and Barometer. The Samsung Galaxy A8+ 2018 is the first handsets in Samsung’s Galaxy A series to support the Gear VR headset. The mid-range handsets can finally be used to watch immersive content using the headset, ending the long bout of exclusivity that the company’s flagships have enjoyed when it comes to Samsung’s virtual reality headset.
The Galaxy A8 will be priced at €499, while the Samsung Galaxy A8+ 2018 will cost €599. These prices are for Europe, but you can expect them to carry comparable price tags in other markets. Samsung hasn’t yet told us where these phones will launch, but we expect that information to be made available as and when the company starts selling them in early January.
