Ring Doorbell Troubleshooting Tips

Tips and tricks to get your Ring doorbell up and working again; Ring Doorbell Troubleshooting TipsRing Doorbell Troubleshooting Tips

The Ring Doorbell is a smart doorbell that alerts your phone or mobile device when someone is at the front door, allowing you to see guests and talk to them without opening the door. While the Ring doorbell is fairly straightforward, it’s not uncommon for problems to emerge. Here are some Ring Doorbell troubleshooting tips.

Reasons Why the Ring Doorbell Is Offline or Not WorkingRing Doorbell Troubleshooting Tips

If your Ring Doorbell is offline, it cannot connect to the Ring app and execute functions like using the camera to see who is at the door. Often, if a Ring Doorbell goes offline, it’s due to a Wi-Fi issue; Ring Doorbell Troubleshooting Tips. Other common reasons why a Ring Doorbell may go offline include:

  • A power surge has disconnected the router.
  • A wire has been disconnected from the router.
  • The Wi-Fi network password has been changed.
  • The battery is depleted.
  • There’s been a temporary power loss.

Why Does the Ring Doorbell Pro Have Power Issues? Ring Doorbell Troubleshooting TipsRing Doorbell Troubleshooting Tips

Unlike the original Ring Doorbell or Ring Doorbell 2, the Ring Doorbell Pro does not have a rechargeable battery, and it does not receive power from an Ethernet connection, as the Ring Doorbell Elite does.

The Ring Doorbell Pro needs a power source that provides between 16 and 24 volts. Ring Doorbells are typically connected to the wire station of a traditional outdoor doorbell. Depending on how frequently your Ring Doorbell Pro is used and what functions are executed, it may require more power.

To confirm your Ring Doorbell Pro has enough power, open Device Health in the Ring app and look for the voltage setting. If it says Good or at least 3,900mV when you select the voltage option, there is not a power issue with the Ring Doorbell Pro.

If your Ring Doorbell Pro works for a short time and then stops working, there may be a power issue. Here are some other indications that it is not receiving enough power:

  • Unable to maintain a Wi-Fi connection.
  • Randomly shuts off.
  • Freezes during live video.
  • Night vision stops working.
  • The original internal doorbell doesn’t ring properly.

What to Do If Your Ring Doorbell Isn’t Working

Follow these troubleshooting tips:

  1. Check the doorbell status. If the doorbell does not automatically connect, check the Device Health section of the Ring app. If the Ring Doorbell is listed as Offline, check the Wi-Fi hardware for any issues.

  2. Put the Ring Doorbell into Setup mode. Select the Setup button. Wait 10 seconds, then select the Setup button again. Check to see if the doorbell reconnects to the network.

  3. Charge the doorbell. Make sure the Ring Doorbell is properly charged.

  4. Re-insert the battery. If you have a Ring Doorbell 2, remove and re-insert its battery, then check to see if the doorbell reconnects to the network.

  5. Add more power to Doorbell Pro. Install a Ring Pro Power Kit or Pro Power Kit V2 to the original doorbell. The former requires you to connect wires from the internal doorbell to the Power Kit, but the V2’s wires are connected to the kit, so you only need to connect the other end to the Front and Transformer stations of the internal doorbell.

If you aren’t comfortable handling wires, contact a licensed electrician to install the Ring Doorbell Pro Power Kit for possible Ring Doorbell Troubleshooting Tips.
