Q&A: How to disable Automatic Update on Windows 8

Question From Seun Portable O: Mr. Simmy, Good morning, I have problems you will solve for me, Firstly, the system with me in the office runs on windows 8, anything i connect with modem, It starts updating automatically and i feel i don’t need the update and it consumes my data.

Sir, I need insight on how to disable the updates so i will be able to use the Internet using my data with no fear. thanks

  1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.

  2. Tap or click Choose how updates get installed.

  3. Under Important updates, choose the option that you want.

  4. Depending on which view you’re presented with, navigate to System and Security and hit ‘turn automatic updating on or off’ under the Windows Update section. Alternatively, click Windows Update and choose ‘change settings’ on the left-hand side

  5. Under Microsoft Update, select the never check for updates (Not Recommended), and then tap or click Apply.
