BlackBerry officially revealed its new mid-range smartphone, the BlackBerry Motion. BlackBerry Motion smartphone was launched in October 2017. The phone comes with a 5.50-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels at a PPI of 403 pixels per inch.
The most striking thing about the design is the lack of the physical keyboard most associated with brand’s smartphones. It has a few defining features such as its dust and water resistant IP67 rating and a large 4,000mAh battery that should last you more than a day, which means its the first of it kind that makes it the only BlackBerry that you can use in the bath
An aluminium frame surrounds the unit while the back has a slightly soft finish making it comfortable to hold that’s not too different from the BlackBerry KeyOne. Surprisingly, the BlackBerry Motion feels much lighter than it looks. The BlackBerry Motion is powered by 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 200GB via a microSD card. As far as the cameras are concerned, the BlackBerry Motion packs a 12-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies.
The BlackBerry Motion runs Android 7.1.1 (with an upgrade to Oreo promised in the new year) and is powered by a 4000mAh non removable battery which will offer over 32 hours of mixed use which means it will enable 50% rercharging in 40 minutes and compatibility with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 and fingerprint sensor. It also comes loaded with all of BlackBerry’s security apps. It measures 155.70 x 75.40 x 8.13 (height x width x thickness) .
Alain Lejeune, Global General Manager for BlackBerry Mobile, had this to say about the new smartphone:
While the initial launch of our newest BlackBerry smartphone will be limited, this is an exciting addition to our growing BlackBerry smartphone portfolio, setting a strong foundation for further portfolio and market growth in the years to come.
The BlackBerry Motion is a single SIM (GSM) smartphone that accepts a Nano-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, 3G and 4G. Sensors on the phone include Compass Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.
Launching before the end of October in the Middle East, the BlackBerry Motion will be priced at AED 1,699 (around $460, £350, AU$595)
